Supporting Noah Homes

I have only been on the Board of Directors of Noah Homes since January 2015, and in this short time I have witnessed community support that is extraordinary. The idea of “Noah Homes” began in 1978, was formalized in 1980, and incorporated in 1982.  In May of 1982, the 3.2 acre property with a three bedroom home was purchased with an option to buy the adjoining 4.8 acres of land and homes.

Maritime Annual Conference and Gala Success

The Maritime Alliance is worldwide organization based here in San Diego. They are a nonprofit think tank for promoting the maritime community and growing the maritime industry. This month they hosted their annual 2-day conference and gala. The event brought together over 240 individuals and businesses from around the world in the maritime industry. The event was hosted at the Corky McMillin Event Center at Liberty Station in San Diego. The participants and speakers shared interesting products and innovative solutions for bringing technology and resources to this industry.

Maritime Update Progress and Upcoming Events

Policy Update:
On July 21, 2014 The Maritime Alliance submitted a document requesting changes under the 2017 NAICS revision process.  To put this in perspective, the San Diego Report showing $14 billion in direct revenue (before indirect and induced job consideration) did not include tourism.  Based on current NAICS codes, the NOAA National Ocean Watch portal calculates that “All Ocean Sectors” in San Diego County in 2011 were $5.6 billion, which included $3.8 billion of tourism and recreation.  So that would be $1.8 billion (net of tourism) in ocean industries.  In the 2012 report, $1.4 billion was identified as “Traditional Maritime Exclusive Industries” which one could roughly compare with the NOAA number of $1.8 billion.  The other two big segments in the San Diego report are “Maritime Technology” of $6.2 billion and “Other Maritime” of $6.5 billion for companies that included some maritime, which are not captured as maritime related revenue by NAICS today.

Peter Quinn Joins Maritime Alliance Board of Directors

In December of 2013, The Maritime Alliance founder and Chair, Michael Jones, requested the McKinney Advisory Group’s Corporate Real Estate Advisor, Peter Quinn, join the newly formed Board of Directors for 2014.  Peter brings 30 years of corporate real estate eperience and is leading the Maritime Focus at McKinney Advisory Group. Peter has also initiated reserach on use of commercial real estate by Blue Tech and maritime related companies in the San Diego region.
